Hair Transplant Surgery:
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. "How does hair transplantation work?"
Using the newest innovative techniques to restore your
hair Dr. Superfon and Dr. Ko meticulously redistribute
your own hair from your donor area into your thin or
balding areas.
Q. "Can anyone tell I had surgery?"
You can go about your daily activities without fear
of detection. This procedure is considered minor out-patient
surgery, which should cause a minimum interruption in
your usual activities.
Q. "Do I qualify for surgery?"
Most healthy men and women qualify for hair restoration
surgery. Hair density, quantity manageability and color
are all important factors. It is important to be seen
by a qualified physician before having hair transplantation
to rule out any medical conditions or medications that
may be causing your hair loss.
Q. "Are the results permanent?"
Transplanted hair will grow for the rest of your life.
That is why with Dr. Superfon and Dr. Ko, with over
30 years of experience, you can be assured that you
will receive permanent, natural and undetectable results.
Q. "Are hair transplants painful?"
The discomfort associated with hair restoration is usually
compared to that of dental surgery. However most patients
report a minimal discomfort. Pain medication is always
offered, though usually limited to the first 24 hours.
Q. "How long does it take?"
The length of the entire hair restoration process is
determined by the extent of hair loss and the desires
of the patient. You may need only one visit. The only
way to find out is through an evaluative consultation.
Q. "Is it expensive?"
Your initial consultation and exam is complimentary
and you are under no obligation. Hair restoration surgery
is an investment that lasts a lifetime and by comparison,
costs less than topical treatment and hair pieces.
Q. "Can I work out?"
You can resume all your normal activities after the
initial healing time. We just ask that you refrain from
strenuous, physical activities for 14 days after your
procedure.
Q. "How will I look after the procedure?"
Immediately following the procedure you will have tiny
slits that will form small scabs. These scabs will fall
off in 7 -10 days. These are not highly visible except
from close up. You may wear a baseball cap or bandana
during the day to cover the grafts
Q. "Why start now?"
An earlier start will allow your surgeon to camouflage
the work while your transplants grow in. If you address
the problem early it won't be as visible.
Q. “After removing hair from the donor
area, will I have a large gap?
”Your scalp is very elastic. When the donor strip
of hair is removed, the scalp on both sides is pulled
together and sutured. The only evidence of hair transplantation
surgery is a thin line hidden under the hair that grows
above and below the donor strip.
Q. “How many grafts will cover one square
inch of my scalp?”
Without seeing a patient first, it is very difficult
to tell. The number of grafts required to give you your
desired look will be dependent upon the quality and
texture of your hair. Therefore, coarser, darker hair
may require less grafts to cover the same area as compared
to finer, lighter
colored hair.
